Our Story
In the early 1990’s, the idea of Professional Sharpening Services (PSS) was born by Reginald Wiles and Greg Vandecar. PSS originally started off as a small Tool and Die Grinding company which quickly developed into a larger scale blade supplier.
PSS is based in Pinetown KZN, South Africa. In 2021, in efforts to expand our gift to a wider population, we opened an office in the United Kingdom.
Our manufacturing journey began with small blades for the printing industry, this led to us acquiring 4 Gockel Grinding machines. We have since invested and purchased a CNC Cylindrical Grinder which is capable of taking blades up to 600mm in diameter!
We, now, work with a number of established companies. We manufacture specialised knives, blades and affiliated wear parts for Mitsubishi Corrugated machines, Toothed knives for Bosch, Sandiacre machines and other vertical form fill machines including flow wrapping. We also manufacture and sharpen steel guillotine blades, as well as blades for the recycling industry.
A large sector of our business is located in the food industry, we manufacture and service blades for many quality food processers, such as Meyn, Stork, Linco and Systemate.
We import a variety of different steels from around Europe, for our current blades we use: High Speed Steel, Stainless Steel, High Chrome & Carbon Steel and Tungsten.
We currently manufacture and sharpen a variety of circular blades for the printing industry, from diameters of 20mm up to 300mm, and we can do this for you! We have the capability of sharpening any blades up to 4m in length.
At PSS, we can assist you with any problems in the Sub-Saharan and European Region, we are also able to carry stock, to give you a quicker turnaround time. We have the process knowledge, terminology and the knowledge of local conditions to make us the best fit for you.
